Stop Selling To Everyone

My friend from Kolkata recently visited Mumbai and brought along his friend’s friend, who happened to work in Mumbai ๐ŸŒ†

It was our first meeting, and guess what? Before I could even say hello, he handed me his business card as if we were at a networking event! ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Now, don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the enthusiasm, but here’s the kicker: I canโ€™t even remember what he tried to pitch to me ๐Ÿ˜…

All I recall is that he worked in sales in an industry that had absolutely no relevance to me or my interests ๐Ÿ™„

If you pitch to uninterested people in your network, it is not only a turn-off but you even lose your existing friends ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Only some are our potential customers, and that’s okay! ๐Ÿ‘

By taking the time to understand our audience and segmenting them based on their needs, we can focus our efforts on those who genuinely have a chance of benefiting from our solution.

It’s about finding the right fit โœ…

When we target our pitches towards the right people, we can create meaningful connections and engage in conversations that matter ๐Ÿ’ž

We become more effective in showcasing the value we bring, and our audience is more likely to listen because we’re addressing their specific pain points. Win-win, right? ๐Ÿ’ช

TODAYโ€™S ACTION ITEM FOR YOU

1) Respect your business card and avoid handing it over to each and every person you meet. Create an ideal persona of your target audience.

2) Whoever is in your contact list, try to segment them by identifying their interests

3) Try initiating the conversation about their problems and the way how they are thinking to solve those problems

4) Soft-pitch your product or service only if it really solves the problem

Nobody likes it when it’s all about me-me-me. Try being curious about other people and their things too.

WHAT I DID THIS WEEK

This week was super productive and full of happiness.

First, I absolutely loved my Sunday. I watched the entire second season of Asur followed by a nice pizza treat. I love treating myself.

It was my motherโ€™s birthday so gave her a small surprise and a nice dinner with family.

Then I documented use cases of ChatGPT for marketers. To explore further capabilities, I researched deeper and got some crazy ways to use ChatGPT Plus. Tested dozens of plugins.

I am thinking to create a membership website for the same target audience that I am catering – working professionals who want to build side projects.

What features or content should it have?

BOOK I AM CURRENTLY READING

Finished “You Only Live Once” by Maxine Morrey which is a story of Lily, a widow seeking solace, reluctantly welcomes her brother’s friend, Jack, as a lodger. As they spend time together, Lily’s fear of getting hurt begins to fade, and she discovers the power of taking risks and embracing life.

Overall, it was a slightly slow and not-so-interesting pick for me.

AROUND THE WEB

Found this tool called ELI5 (Explain Like Iโ€™m 5) which explains every complex topic in the simplest way possible. I use a prompt for this on ChatGPT but this tool is somehow doing it better. So yeah, itโ€™s a good backup option to satisfy your curiosity.
