I have a habit of asking every single new team member who joins our team, “do you see something in our processes and systems that can be improved?”
My reasoning is simple.
We have been living and working through those processes for months and years.
We got accustomed to that culture of working.
So much that we kinda ignore some of the things that we shouldn’t be.
We are used to it.
But that doesn’t mean it’s the ideal way and cannot be changed.
So newcomers in the team can immediately point out the things which are not-so-good.
This applies not just to existing processes but also to initiatives (remember my last letter about setup vs maintenance?)
When I started writing online in 2016, I hustled all my way to write about random things just for the love of it.
My innocent self then >>
👉 Didn’t care about the time that I was putting into writing every single article
👉 Never expected a massive following or anything from what I was doing
👉 Barely knew that I could make money or gain anything out of it
Result = I got better with the art. Smarter with time.
If I had expectations, I would quit. Probably that is the difference between students who ask me to help them build side income. They have exposure and expectations from an early age.
My smarter self now >>
👉 Checks if something is aligning with the brand and if the content is really worth putting online
👉 Analyzes all kinds of trends, the demand of topic, persona, messaging, outcomes and a hundred other things
👉 Has a hidden motive behind every piece of content that I put out on the internet
✨ My innocent self brought me where I am today.
✨ But my smarter self brings value to the world.
I still try to have that innocent self with me – in the form of my side projects, pro bono projects, free meetups, journal blogs that I own and so on.
The joy lies in curiosity and there is a high learning curve.
But honestly, it takes a back seat when we get experience and get better than 80% of the population.
Now don’t get me wrong. Being experienced has its own positives too
👉 In-depth understanding comes naturally
👉 Risks are known and calculated well
👉 Clarity of outcome is present
In fact, I believe a team should be a balance of Gen-Zs and with the guidance of some supportive millennials.
➡️ You might have noticed how many founders feel they are building the best thing without even listening to customers
➡️ You might have noticed many parents simply disregard the ideas when their kids dream of changing the world with their ideas
➡️ You might have noticed how college professors shut their students despite of knowing the possibilities of them getting wrong
I wonder if most people even realize that higher experience can be a double-edged sword?
Or the battle is simply won by the amount of experience?
What do you think?
✔ WHAT I DID THIS WEEK
Hint: It was super unproductive 🙈
I always promise to share the downs as well as the ups.
So let’s get cracking with this week’s report, shall we?
Spent much time in research of a different industry altogether. That’s the only thing successfully done as planned ✨
I wrapped up with some solid systems and processes for the client – SOPs, task lists, financial reports. Got a to-do list of 19 things so far. 8 are completely done ✅
Honestly, it’s fun to work with small businesses. Building things from scratch. Every movement creates an impact giving an adrenaline rush 🤩
That’s it about this week.
Yup 🙂
Unlike a typical week – no books, no movies, no games, no videos published, no social posts, no journaling… and just 3 days of gym 🙊
Tried posting a social post after researching a lot. Gave up and ended up posting a mediocre post which I deleted already.
This week, I was mostly low in energy. Not sure if it was due to summer heat or sky getting dark by 8 PM or something else 🥵
Slept a lot this week. Mid–day naps, some long naps after office and even extra sleep in the morning.
Just a reminder that we all have low times. Mind and body need some time off 😴
🌐 AROUND THE WEB
I explored Zomato Trends which is a data analysis platform, custom-made for the restaurant industry 🍽️
Zomato Food Trends can be leveraged by the restaurants to make informed decisions about the location to launch new restaurants, set optimal menu prices and identify trending cuisines and dishes..
If you know someone who is into restaurant business, you can share. Else just explore. It’s fun 🙂
